Here is some important information to help you prepare for your admission, including what to expect during your stay with us.

Inpatient programs

Our inpatient rehabilitation programs are perfect if you require overnight nursing and medical care.

As an inpatient you will receive around the clock support from a caring team, while enjoying the warm and friendly feel of our boutique facility, the nutritious and delicious meals prepared on-site, and a rehabilitation program that incorporates nursing and a tailored mix of allied health therapies focused on your needs and goals.

When your program is complete, you can continue to benefit from services through our day rehabilitation program.

Preparing for your stay

What to bring

  • Comfortable casual clothes such as t-shirts, shorts, tracksuit pants, jumpers, pyjamas for the evening, and swimwear if you are participating in hydrotherapy. 
  • Comfortable, closed, flat shoes (please do not bring loose-fitting shoes such as thongs, sandals, or slippers). 
  • Personal toiletries such as tissues, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, shampoo and continence products. 
  • A few personal items, such as photos, books or an iPad. 
  • Glasses, hearing aids, mobility aids (such as a walking stick) and communication devices. 
  • Medicare card. 
  • Health insurance fund, pension, and/or health care card. 
  • Any forms, notes, reports, and information provided by your doctor. 
  • All relevant x-rays and blood test information. 
  • All medications you are currently taking in original packaging (i.e., not in a pill organiser such as a Webster pack). 
  • A form of payment e.g., bank or credit card.

We recommend only bringing essential items. Please do not bring any valuables, cash, or personal items that you will not require.

Be sure to label all your personal belongings before you arrive. We will provide with a drawer for your belongings. You can also request a lockable drawer for a small fee.

While Royal Rehab Private Petersham endeavours to take every possible care of your personal property, we cannot accept liability or responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to your personal belongings.

Your stay

One of our friendly nurses will welcome you and help you through your admission. 

During your admission, you will meet with our specialised team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals. The team will work with you to understand your unique goals to create an individualised rehabilitation plan for you.

We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable. We try our very best to accommodate all requests for a private room, however, priority for private rooms is based on medical necessity. If you are required to share a room, it will be with someone of the same sex only.

We prepare all meals on site using the freshest ingredients. Our head chef and dietitian have planned fantastic menus which are both healthy and delicious! 

If you have any individual preferences, dietary needs or allergies, please let us know. 

Meals are served in your room. 

For a small charge, we are happy to prepare and serve meals for your friends and family during visiting hours. Our reception team take weekday meal orders for visitors up until 9:30am on the same day. If your visitors would like to share a meal with you on the weekend, please place your order before 9.30am on Friday. 

For your convenience we have provided a telephone in your room – you will not be charged for local calls. There will be a charge for international calls and calls to mobile phones.

As incoming calls are transferred to your in-room telephone by our reception, we kindly ask that family and friends call during reception hours which are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Outside of these times our nursing staff take all enquiries, however attending to patients is their priority.  

Please try not to take calls during therapy or mealtimes.

If you require laundry services, simply ask our nursing or housekeeping staff for details of our laundry concierge service. All laundry can be professionally cared for offsite for a fee.

Why not relax and pamper yourself with our onsite hairdresser. Simply ask any of the nursing team to organise an appointment and pay the hairdresser directly.

Treat your feet to good health with a visit from our podiatrist. Simply ask the nursing team to organise an appointment and pay the podiatrist directly. 

Please bring your current medication with you to ensure it can be properly incorporated into your complete rehabilitation program.

Our pharmacist can provide any medications you require during your stay and bill you directly for anything not covered by your insurer.

We provide free Wi-Fi, internet access, telephone service, free-to-air TV and Foxtel. Upon admission, we will provide you with the Wi-Fi password and phone number for your room.  

Royal Rehab Private Petersham is smoke free. If you would like support to quit smoking, including nicotine replacement therapy, please speak with your rehabilitation specialist doctor.

Going home

Planning for your discharge commences on admission and continues throughout your stay as you progress and achieve your rehabilitation goals. 

We will provide you with a discharge summary outlining special instructions and care on discharge, including a comprehensive medication summary

The discharge time is before 10:00am. Please arrange for a responsible adult to help you with your belongings and accompany you home. You can make yourself comfortable in the patient lounge while you wait for your transport home.

Fees & charges

Please contact your private health insurer to check the following: 

  • Is the reason for your admission to rehabilitation covered under your level of insurance? 
  • Is your policy up to date? 
  • Do you have a waiting period for rehabilitation services? 
  • Are there any excess or co-payments? 

Before you are admitted to Royal Rehab Private Petersham, we will always notify you of any costs associated with your health fund. All co-payments or excess payments are required to be paid at the time of admission. All fees or charges incurred during your stay must be settled on the day of discharge. 

Depending on your medical condition or procedure, you may require additional services such as pathology, radiology and podiatry. These services will attract additional charges that may be covered in part or full by your health insurance and Medicare. These costs will be invoiced to you separately following your discharge.

If you do not have private health cover, you may elect to be admitted as a self-insured patient. An advance payment may be required prior to admission. Additional services such as pathology, radiology, podiatry and other specialist consultations may be covered in part or full by Medicare. 

Please note that non Medicare card holders cannot claim a Medicare rebate and are not eligible to receive subsidies from the Australian Government. 

Other costs you may incur during your stay include: personal laundry, telephone use, and additional meals ordered for family or friends. The administration staff will inform you of these costs and all accounts that need to be settled prior to discharge.

If your Insurer covers the cost of a private room, we will endeavour to accommodate your request. Please note that private rooms are allocated on a medical needs basis.

Your GP or healthcare provider can contact us on (02) 8585 4900 for a referral form or complete it online here.

Once we have received your referral, we will contact either you or the referring hospital to organise your pre-admission assessment.
